RISING: JAKE DALTON’S ALTERNATIVE CD ROCKS!
Jake Dalton, was born in Austin, Texas on October 9th, the same day as many other music greats, including John and Sean Lennon, John Entwistle (bassist for The Who), reggae great Peter Tosh. Another notable born that day is (Mrs. Ozzy) Sharon Osbourne.
A Phoenix Rises from the Ashes …
Dalton’s passion for music came at an early age. His musical enthusiasm was evident by the time he was six, as he banged out rhythms on anything he could find. Then, at age 13, he taught himself to play drums. He also learned to play guitar and attended the National Guitar Workshop. Later he would have the good fortune to study under Joel Gregoire, Paul Chester, and Matt Smith. Dalton states that during his rocky upbringing, “Music was my escape.” He says, “It was a medium for me to be able to express myself.”
First, Dream your Life then Live your Dreams …
During his youth, his love for music intensified from listening to his parents’ LPs by artists such as Journey, Boston, Foreigner, Willie Nelson, George Strait and Chicago. His varied taste in music was and is a driving force in his life. He was also fond of writing poetry — a skill he would later use when writing lyrics. “A Road to Somewhere” is a short story he wrote and had published at the age of 19. He also received a football scholarship to college where he would eventually win a National Championship. Since music was his real passion, it was not long before his dream to share his heart and soul through his music started becoming a reality.
Dalton’s CD is not the only thing Rising …
He [his sound] was influenced by Guns & Roses, The Cult, Pink Floyd and Alice in Chains and has been compared to Jim Morrison, Lou Rawls, Curt Cobain, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Elvis Costello and Pink Floyd, and Metallica.
Dalton is passionate about his craft and causes move him deeply. “Please Remember” is a song for and about all soldiers andveterans, as well as, their families and friends. He states: “Memorial Day is about remembering those in the military; past and present.” “That day is set aside for honoring them, it’s not for picnics and furniture sales.”
Want to take you Higher….
His commitment to making a difference is demonstrated in “Fly High.” Jake wrote the song to pay tribute to his late mother who died of breast cancer in 2003. He plans to donate a portion of his proceeds to a foundation or an outreach program geared toward helping women cancer survivors feel whole and beautiful again.
Interesting trivia…..
His cousin, Drayton McLane, owns the Houston Astros baseball team.
Dalton’s producer, Dan Workman, co-owns Houston’s SugarHill Studios, the “longest continually operating recording studio in Texas.” Artists with connections to the studio include Freddie King, Freddie Fender, Johnny Winter, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones and Willie Nelson and it’s where the Big Bopper recorded “Chantilly Lace” so many years ago.
His biography was written by former Dallas Morning News Staff Writer, Susan Verhault.
